Welcome to the Freinsheim House of Toys!

Let us immerse ourselves in the world of game in days gone by, when toys made by the Bing company were a source of excitement in children's rooms all over the world. It was often not only the children's eyes that lit up, because the toys fascinated young and old alike.

This extraordinary collection brings history to life, from the development of the German toy industry and industrial culture, to international trade, the consequences of the economic crisis and the rise and fall of Jewish entrepreneurship in Germany.

It all began in 1864, when Adolf and Ignaz Bing took over the company from their father. They moved the company to Nuremberg in 1866 to build up a wholesale business for household goods and tin toys. The company did not start its own production until 1879. By 1885, it already employed 500 people. Until the First World War, the company continued to grow rapidly and employed about 4,000 people before the war. Bing was considered the largest toy factory in the world.

Its end was heralded in 1932, due to the world economic crisis in 1929 and political change.

In our museum we have a comprehensive collection of the historical toys on display for you. You can see the collection of the current brand owner and curator Uwe Groll, which fits quiete wonderfully here in into the historic old town of Freinsheim here. The collection includes over 2,000 tinware, toys and household goods.

After the tour, an ice cream or coffee in our museum café tastes particularly good. Here you can review everything you have seen. Perhaps you too will discover:

There are things that always change and adapt to the changing times. The fascination with play, the playful discovery of the adult world and the joy of colour, movement and sound are things that have not changed.

Join us now on a unique journey through time, back to the 19th century when the Bing company began producing toys in 1879.
