Station 15:
From toys to household - and into the Laterna Magica

Text

We have reached the end of our toy exhibition and thus the end of this journey into the forgotten history of the German-Jewish toy factory Bing, once a company of world renown.

The Bing company not only produced toys, but also many different household goods. In our "Laterna Magica" ice cream café, for example, you will find ice cream machines, coffee grinders, coffee makers, champagne buckets, a flotte, old ice cream cabinets, mugs and candlesticks from the Bing company.

There is also the guest room called the "Bing Cave". Why is it called that? Ignaz Bing, one of the Bing brothers, was not only a successful entrepreneur, but also a nature lover with an explorer's spirit. He regularly went to Streitberg and bought an estate there around 1900. In 1905, a cave was discovered here. It was called the Bing Cave and was developed into a show cave in 1906. Only one year later, Ignaz Bing had the cave illuminated electrically. This cave is still open to visitors today.
